School Lunch Equipment Grants

DOE has allocated $5,403,280 in one-time grants for equipment assistance for participants in the School Lunch Program. The funds were distributed to local school food authorities (SFAs) by competitive grant process.

Brief description of program or funding including funding distribution method (formula or competitive grant):
These funds will provide a one-time appropriation for equipment assistance to school food authorities (SFAs) that are participants in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).  The purpose of the NLSP is to provide nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.  Funds must be distributed to local SFAs by competitive grant process.

When funds are expected to be available:  Funds became available March 2009.

How long are funds available:
Although SFAs are encouraged to obligate the grant funds within three (3) months of receipt, the final date for obligating the funds will be September 30, 2009.
