Immunization Grants
Section: Division A, TitleVIII | Agency: Dept. of Health
Brief description of program or funding including funding distribution method (formula or competitive grant):
Of the $300 million in Recovery Act funds allocated to the Section 317 program, $250 million will help existing Section 317 grantees acquire and make recommended vaccines available by using $200 million of these funds for CDC-purchased vaccines that will be made available to states and territories. The remaining $50 million will be used to provide program operation grants and scientific and technical support to states and territories to deliver the vaccines and strengthen vaccination programs. The 317 immunization funding can provide any Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended vaccine to persons of any age; however, most of this funding will be used to vaccinate children in health departments and private provider practices through the Vaccines for Children Program.
Recent information is that Florida will receive $5.4 million between August 2009 and the first quarter of 2010. The majority of these funds will be used to support county health department immunization infrastructure and flu clinics.
When funds are expected to be available: 80% of funds should be available during August 2009 and the remainder during the first quarter of 2010.
How long funds are available: All funds must be obligated by September 2011.
Conditions or prerequisites for accessing funds (include matching or MOE requirements): Maintenance of effort applies to this grant.
