Senior Employment

Section: Division A, Title VIII | Agency: Dept. of Elder Affairs

Community service employment for older Americans

Brief description of program or funding including funding distribution method (formula or competitive grant):

These funds are to be used to support additional training and employment opportunities for unemployed low-income seniors and expand the number of SCSEP participants assigned to community service work.  The wages paid to these low-income seniors must provide a direct stimulus to the economies of local communities, which will also benefit from the community service work performed by SCSEP participants.  This would equate to 20 hours per week at the Florida minimum wage of $7.21 per hour.

These funds will be proportionately allocated to the Department of Elder Affairs existing contractors:  Experience Works, Florida Institute of Workforce Development and Unidad.

The allocation to the National Sponsors is handled by the US Department of Labor.

When funds are expected to be available:  March 19, 2009

How long are funds available:  Through June 30, 2010

Conditions or prerequisites for accessing funds (include matching or MOE requirements):   None
