Unemployment Compensation (emergency extended benefits)
Section: Division B, Title II | Agency: Agency for Workforce Innovation
Brief description of program or funding including funding distribution method (formula or competitive grant): Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) is fully federally-funded extended benefits available to individuals who have exhausted all rights to state unemployment compensation (UC). EUC became payable for the week ending July 12, 2008 pursuant to P.L 110-252.
The Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008, P.L. 110-449, extended the eligibility period and expanded the amount of benefits that could paid under the EUC program from up to 13 weeks to 20 weeks of benefits. In addition the law created a second tier of benefit eligibility for up to an additional 13 weeks of benefits in states with a total unemployment rate of 6 percent or higher. Florida immediately met this criteria.
P.L. 111-5 has not further expanded EUC benefits but extends the time for establishing EUC eligibility to December 26, 2009. Individuals establishing EUC eligibility can make claims for benefits as late as the week ending June 5, 2010.
When funds are expected to be available: Funds are currently available and are being paid to eligible claimants.
How long are funds available: Through the week ending June 5, 2010.
