FDOT To Host Economic Stimulus Information Meetings

Chipley - In anticipation of receiving federalfunds from the American Recovery and Reinvestments Act of 2009 (ARRA)for transportation projects in Northwest Florida, the FloridaDepartment of Transportation (FDOT) has scheduled information meetingsthroughout the state to ensure that interested parties, includingminority and small businesses are informed of projects that willreceive stimulus funds.

The first of two meetings in District Three will be held at the Haydon Burns Building Auditorium, 605 Suwannee Street in Tallahassee, March 17, at 9 a.m., EST.  The second meeting will take place in the Santa Rosa County Auditorium, 4530 Spikes Way Milton, March 24, at 9 a.m., CDT.

FDOTwill provide an overview of the state highway system projects beingconsidered for possible funding from the ARRA as well as projects thathave been requested by counties in the district.

The purposeof the meeting is to match potential prime contractors with theavailable firms, or subcontractors, that can provide services and arecertified as a disadvantage business enterprise (DBE), minoritybusiness enterprise (MBE) or small business enterprise.

Byproviding opportunities for these firms, FDOT hopes to ensure equalopportunity in  its contracts to create diversity of those receivingstate and federal funding via transportation projects.

A ‘match making’ session will be held during the meeting to provide primecontracting firms an opportunity to meet with potential disadvantagedminority and small business enterprise firms to help fulfill theircontracting services to the FDOT.
