Florida cultural organizations to receive federal stimulus funding

Florida Arts Recovery Program to preserve jobs in the non-profit arts sector

Tallahassee, FL –The Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture announce the recipients of Florida Arts Recovery Program grant awards.  The program, funded through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 and the National Endowment for the Arts, is designed to preserve jobs in the nonprofit arts sector.

“The Florida Arts Recovery Program provides much-needed funding for cultural organizations throughout the state,” said Secretary of State Kurt Browning. “The positions preserved by these grants are critical to Florida’s economic recovery, and contribute to a high quality of life for Floridians and visitors to the state.”

The recommended grants represent 27 preserved positions in the nonprofit arts sector in twelve Florida counties.  The Division will distribute up to $25,000 for each organization for a total of $393,700 in pass through funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.  The recipients are:

·         DANCE ALIVE!, Alachua County

·         Brevard Art Museum, Brevard County

·         Young at Art of Broward, Broward County

·         Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, Duval County

·         VSA arts of Florida, Hillsborough County

·         Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science, Leon County

·         Arts for Learning, Inc., Miami-Dade County

·         Jewish Museum of Florida, Miami-Dade County

·         ArtSpring, Inc., Miami-Dade County

·         Miami Dade College, Miami-Dade County

·         Northwest Florida Ballet, Inc., Okaloosa County

·         Boca Ballet Theatre Company, Palm Beach County

·         The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, Palm Beach County

·         Creative Clay, Inc., Pinellas County

·         The Studio @ 620, Pinellas County

·         Museum of Florida Art, Volusia County

An additional $50,000 will be awarded by the Southern Arts Federation, Atlanta. Recommendations were made through the Florida Arts Recovery Program panel review. Recipients are:

·         Arts and Humanities Council of Charlotte County

·         Florida Craftsmen, Inc., Pinellas County
